Community is a practice
We all help create the culture. This is not an experience produced for an audience.

You’re welcome at our table. Come as you are. Eat together. Find your people. Move what matters forward. Monthly.
Community is not to be consumed.
It is to be practised.
We have more ways to connect than ever, yet a lot of people are still doing life, work and problem-solving alone.
Somewhere along the way, community became something we joined, followed, attended or consumed. The organiser created the experience. Everyone else turned up.
The Table is an experiment in doing it differently.
A regular physical place where people can meet, work alongside each other, ask for help, share what they know and gradually become useful to one another.
Not networking. Not another event to consume.
Community as a practice.
This is where we begin. Not necessarily where we will get to.
01 / THE NIGHT
A lightly facilitated community night with different ways to participate.
There will be a short welcome, focused time, optional peer connection and opportunities to ask the community for support.
No forced networking. No compulsory participation.
02 / THE PLACE
This is where The Table begins.
Once a month, we’ll gather in Fitzroy to eat, work, make, talk and help each other move things forward.
Venue to be confirmed. Location details will be shared with waitlist subscribers first.
03 / COME AS YOU ARE
Bring something you want to spend time on:
There will be prompts and simple activities available if you want them.

04 / COLLECTIVE EFFORT
Humans often find it easier to start, persist and solve problems when other people are around.
A run club is a good example. You might arrive with the motivation of a damp sock, but once other people are there, you start running. Social accountability begins doing some of the work your inner discipline refused to do.
Over time, shared rhythm, encouragement and familiarity make it easier to return.
That is part of why running clubs, book clubs, study groups, coworking spaces and communities work.
At The Table you might find someone who can:
And next month, you might be that person for somebody else.
That is the point.

05 / COMMUNITY IN PRACTICE
We all help create the culture. This is not an experience produced for an audience.
No unsolicited selling, pitching or lead generation.
Ask for advice, introductions, knowledge, feedback or practical help.
Share knowledge. Make an introduction. Welcome someone. Help with something. You do not have to contribute every time you come.
Talk, listen, work quietly, move around, join in or opt out.
We want people across ages, cultures, genders, abilities, neurotypes, professions, incomes and life stages to participate.
Saying ‘everyone is welcome’ is not enough. We will pay attention to who comes, who does not, what barriers exist and what needs to change.
No racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism or other bigotry.
NO DICKHEADS.The Table is being initiated by SoCo Collective, but it should not depend on one person. Over time, we want members to help shape, host and lead it.
06 / VERSION ONE
This is where we begin.
Not necessarily where we will get to.
We are starting with a monthly gathering in Fitzroy.
Then we will learn.
The format may evolve.
New rituals, activities, projects or neighbourhood Tables may emerge.
We want to understand:
Version one is a starting point, not the finished model.
07 / MAKING ROOM
We are designing for different ways of participating, including:
08 / PAY IT FORWARD
The Table is free, but we ask people to pre-pay for their meal when booking.
If you want to come but paying for a meal is a barrier, we still want you here.
We are creating a simple pay-it-forward meal system, where members of the community who have a little extra can cover a meal for someone who doesn’t.
No big explanation. No judgement.
Stay tuned as we set this up.
Community is also about making room for each other.
09 / OPEN INVITATION
You do not need a project, professional reason or existing connection.
You might be working, studying, freelancing, job hunting, parenting, retired, building something, making something, new to Fitzroy or simply wanting more community in your life.
Come alone or bring someone.
10 / NEED TO KNOW

THE PARENT COLLECTIVE

SoCo builds community, platforms and shared infrastructure that help people turn knowledge, relationships and talent into momentum.
